I have a two machines running Windows 10; they cannot be upgraded to Windows 11 because they lack the “necessary” hardware. That doesn’t stop Windows from nagging me about it, though. Honestly, I do not know what the product managers are expecting me to do. I am not going to spend thousands of dollars upgrading my hardware so that Microsoft can install a new version of Windows. The only reason I am even using Windows is for gaming, and the minute I think I can install Steam OS onto the machine and be happy with the outcome, I am going to do it and never look back.

In the mean time, you can disable the nag by using the Windows Registry and creating or updating this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate and creating a DWORD value named DisableOSUpgrade with a value of 1.

I needed to create the “WindowsUpdate” folder as it did not exist. Standard disclaimer which should be obvious but I still get comments around things like this: I cannot guarantee this will work for you or that it will continue to work in the future, but it is working for me now.
